The challenge.

The Marine Society believes that seafarers deserve access to life-enhancing education no matter where they are in the world. Their Learn@Sea platform offers practical courses that can be studied anywhere at any time.

They were looking to expand their offering from Deck subjects into Engineering. As their content development partners for the past three years, they turned to us for help to ensure that this transition into a new area was a success. We faced the challenge of creating great quality content that was easy to process and retain, supported by bespoke imagery.

The solution.

We started off by developing a clear understanding of what our client was after and working with them to construct a bespoke syllabus. In this project, the goal was an introductory engineering course which could be used by people new to maritime engineering to get an overview of a wide array of engineering systems onboard merchant vessels.

With the goalposts set, we brought together an expert team of marine engineers, learning developers and graphic designers to make the dream a reality. We worked together to polish the syllabus to ensure that it hit all of the key points and then dived into each lesson to create carefully-curated content at exactly the right level for the audience.

In order to ensure quality and accuracy, every lesson was reviewed by multiple subject-matter experts and editors, compromising nothing to improve the product with every iteration. Parallel to that, our storytelling and graphic design specialists worked their magic to create a suite of bespoke images. These graphics perfectly match the written content and help the learners to understand and retain their newly-acquired knowledge more easily.
